A three-week plan

How to prepare for a maths exam, week by week.

Short, spaced practice beats one long night before. Here’s the plan, with the part of the app for each step.

  1. Test any topic: a list of textbook topics, with two tests ready to start

Three weeks out: test each topic

List the topics in the exam from the course outline. Take a short practice test on each one. The wrong answers show where to spend the time.

  2. Practice test results: 6 out of 8, with the 2 wrong answers saved to the bank

Two weeks out: fix what went wrong

Every wrong answer is saved to their bank. Fix my mistakes works through them one after another, with fresh questions on the same idea.

  3. A Tuterly revision sheet with a summary and the key ideas for a topic

    The last week: revision notes

Make study notes on the whole topic, or just on the parts they find hard, and re-test the topics that scored lowest.

  4. A practice test score screen: Great work! 6 out of 8

The day before: one last check

A short test on their weakest topic, then stop. Sleep does more for exam marks than a late night of new questions.

What tutoring has taught us

Practice tests, then drill what they got wrong.

Years of tutoring at Bayside Academics have taught us that the most reliable way to lift test marks is to sit practice tests, find the questions a student can’t fully do yet, and drill exactly those. Re-reading notes feels productive, but the marks are in the questions they skip. Tuterly is built to give students that extra practice, and the confidence that comes with it, before every test and exam.

It finds the gaps

A short test on each topic shows exactly which questions your child can’t do yet, so revision time goes where the marks are.

It’s new every time

A past paper only works once. Tuterly writes a new test each time, so a second attempt is a real retest, not a memory test.

Mistakes become practice

Wrong answers go into their bank with a worked solution, then fresh questions on the same idea until each one is mastered.

It matches their class

Every topic follows the Australian Curriculum, including the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. Your child can also upload their own school tests and practice papers.

Questions

Maths exam preparation, answered.

When are maths exams?

Most secondary schools hold maths exams or end-of-semester tests near the end of Term 2 and Term 4 (or in mid-year and end-of-year exam weeks), but every school sets its own dates. Check the term planner or course outline, and start about three weeks before.

Can it cover the exact topics in my child’s exam?

Yes. Your child picks any Years 7 to 10 topic in the Australian Curriculum and Tuterly writes a practice test on it. From a linked parent account you can also upload the term planner or course outline, and Tuterly focuses topic tests on what’s coming up this term.

Isn’t a past paper enough?

A past paper is good for timing, once. After that your child has seen the questions. A practice test generator writes a new test every time, and the questions they get wrong turn into practice on exactly those ideas.

How much does it cost?

Tuterly is free to download. It’s $8.99 a week or $29.99 a month at the launch price (from 1 April 2027, $17.99 a week or $59.99 a month), with a 7-day free trial on the monthly plan only. You can cancel any time.

Is Tuterly on Android?

Not yet. Tuterly is on iPhone at launch, and Android is coming soon. Tap "On Android?" next to any sign-up button and leave your email, and we'll tell you when it's on Android.

Is there a free option?

Our free worksheet generator makes a six-question sheet with fully worked solutions on any Year 3 to 10 topic, one a day, free with your email.

Better maths marks start with the next wrong answer.

Tuterly turns every missed maths question into practice tailored towards the student, not just a generic worksheet.
